Guiding Principles

Partners for Change Guiding Principles

Principle #1

YOU ARE NOT ALONE! Partners for Change is based on building community to solve problems and reach goals more quickly and effectively. Everyone can, and should, call on the community for help and support.

Principle #2

THRIVE. Every person—even you—needs enough relationships, resources, and reasons to thrive.

Principle #3

ALL RELATIONSHIPS ARE BASED ON RECIPROCITY. Make sure that everyone has the opportunity to give back to the community in a meaningful way.

Principle #4

TAKE CHARGE OF YOUR LIFE. People in poverty, like everyone else, should be able to chart their own courses in life. In our model, Change Participants take an increasingly active role in leading their cohort, their lives, and how they give reciprocity to others using a 14-20 week course focusing on personal transformation.

Principle #5

LEARN A NEW LANGUAGE. It is important to have the language to help people succeed. Building relationships across class and race lines can be awkward. By building community, we recognize that everyone has a gift to share, and areas to grow.  In this way, we support all to work together to build a stronger network through positive communication and collaboration.

Principle #6

ENJOY THE RIDE. Laughter, fun, and a bit of common sense are three gifts that serve us well on the journey to success.

Partners for Change Is…

A community-based  mentorship program that assists Tri-Valley families in achieving financial self-sufficiency. Through intentional partnerships participants work together to build a strong community network.  Through this network, participants work together to strengthen their life skills “tool kit” and set goals to help them improve in the areas they wish to grow.  After completing a 14-20-week transformational course, participants graduate into Phase Two where they develop the leadership skills required to support each other and those in the greater tri valley area through community outreach.

Each week, the transformative cohort meets to build friendship and do the hard work required to achieve ones personal goals, as well as to explore the greater tri valley’s community needs.  This phase, which typically takes 18-24 months helps the entire community to begin to develop a critical eye toward the challenges and barriers that make it difficult for all to move beyond systemic economic poverty.
